In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called him "the preeminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement." Although he never commercially lived up to these high expectations, artistically he surely did. He has a warm, nuanced and resonant baritone voice that just drips out of the speakers. Coupled with the excellent lyrics and melodies this makes great listening.
